Designed for 1:1 Individual Instruction. This Course is ideal for climbers with some previous experience, looking to start climbing outdoors independently. The 2 day workshop covers all the key safety and technical aspects of outdoor lead climbing on bolted routes - with plenty of practice time to develop new skills with a safe and gradual approach. We also introduce you to the local Nowra Crags, happily sharing our local knowledge and information.


Course Material Covered and Practiced on the Rock:

  • Crag selection and local ethics.

  • Gear choices, care and maintenance. Understanding your gear and its limitations.

  • Key safety principles, route selection and the full risk assessment process for leading climbing.

  • Basic knots required for sport climbing.

  • Lead and top rope belaying techniques and devices.

  • Key lead climbing techniques, clipping, body position and understanding different bolts.

  • Understanding and using fixed bolted anchors used for sport climbing. “Cleaning” anchors and sports gear off the climb.

  • Basis of climbing technique – footwork, body position, efficiency.

  • Lead Falls – risk assessment, fall technique, managing fear and developing falling skills over time.

  • Retreating and projecting routes - different strategies. 

  • Abseiling fundamentals. 

Prerequisites:
Previous exposure to climbing is highly advised (either outdoor top roping or indoor climbing).  For people without any previous experience we recommend booking an introductory indoor session with us at Indoor Climb South Coast first, or an introductory outdoor climbing day.

Inclusions:
All climbing gear (including harnesses and shoes if required) all safety and technical gear.
